Water collected at the Grotto by our team

Our shops are in Lourdes, a step from the Grotto of Massabielle. Each day our team goes there to collect the water at the Sanctuary, where it is given freely, and fill the bottles by hand. Your payment covers the containers, the filling and the shipping, not the water itself.

Why the 4 × 100 ml size

A hundred millilitres is more than our small giving-away bottles: enough to last months of regular use, fill a holy water font, go with a daily prayer. And four bottles is the family size — one each, or one for the home and the rest for relatives.

If you would rather hand water out widely, in small amounts, the set of five 80 ml bottles gives more units. For a single larger container, see the 250 ml bottle or the one-litre bottle.

Can these bottles be blessed?

Nothing requires it, but several of our customers have them blessed before giving them away. Lourdes water is not holy water in the liturgical sense: it is spring water which the faithful associate with grace because of the healings reported since the apparitions, seventy of which the Church has recognised as miraculous.

A priest may therefore bless it, as he would any devotional object. The water accompanies prayer without ever taking its place.

How Lourdes water is used

A sign of the cross on waking, a few drops on the forehead of someone unwell, a font by the door, a hospital visit, a baptism, a First Communion. These bottles go readily with a novena candle or a Lourdes rosary.
